Hi and welcome!

I think there are 8 or so of us that have babies from Octopets!!! All are doing very well! Good experience too! As to the podfarm, not sure but abalone is a type of clam I believe.

If I'm noy Wrong the pod farm is a system that helps you breed amphipods. The abalone is a kind of shellfish (which I like to eat :) ), its shell colours depend on the food it eats, if you feed it different foods, layers of colours will be formed.

I have ordered from thee and would do it again!!

Jim will answer any questions you have if you email him.

Joel is right the pod farm is for amphis and is really benefically for newly hatched octos.

When you octo is big enough it would prolly eat the abalone.

I don't think the abalone would do well witht the octo, or me

My octopus came the next day after I had ordered it. I ordered the "kit" so that I had clams to feed it. It's been 3 months now and he's doing great!

I just ordered the pod farm. It comes with a HUGE clump of macro and about 100 pods (guessing, but it's alot!). These look like a mix between a shrimp and a pill bug. Green, and the biggest is about 3/4 of an inch long.

I'd definatly recommend them to anyone as I've had tons of positive contact with them, and most importantly, my octo is alive!

Cheers!

Could someone post a link to Octopets, please? Of course, now that I asked ... its probably a really simple site that I should have been able to figure out by myself. Where are they located? I'm on the west coast USA and don't want the package to travel 3000 miles.

Thanks!

Richard

so with feeding do you just put in the whole bunch of the pods for the octo to eat all at once or do you put them in their own tank and feed sparingly every day? Also with hermit crabs, do you just buy a whole lot of them and throw them in the tank or only add a couple a day?, every other day? :goofysca:

I think the way most people do it is to add the amphipods to the octo tank. And add a few of the crabs. But then start keeping the food in a separate place and add it daily, even offering it directly to the ocotpus. This might be putting out some baby clams in a lid, or dropping a hermit crab in front of the octo, or offering a piece of shrimp on a feeding stick.

Many of our octo keepers have reported in detail on the first weeks with their octopus. You might want to go look at the Journals and Photos forum.

By the way, I found I could keep a small quantity of crabs in a large turtle bowl - no filter, just changed the water frequently.

What size tank can the octos from octopets live in? and how often should you feed them?

Hi and welcome to TONMO. com!

We recommend at least a 50 gallon tank for bimacs (that's what octopets sells).

Feeding depends on how old they are - under three months, several times a day, after that, once a day.

You'll find a lot of good information about tanks and keeping an octopus in the Ceph Care articles. Just click on the Ceph Care button above. You might want to look at the Equipment List and the Checklist.
