Is it safe to keep an octopus and an anglar together? since anglars don't move very much, it probably wouldn't bother it so much.

View Full Version : octo's and anglers 0ctopussy Feb 14th, 2004, 03:50pm Is it safe to keep an octopus and an anglar together? since anglars don't move very much, it probably wouldn't bother it so much. joel_ang Feb 14th, 2004, 06:43pm Anglers as you probably know have huge mouths and can swallow really big stuff. A baby octo certainly wouldn't be safe. But on the other hand, if you get a large octo, the tables are turned and the angler isn't going to be too happy. They also might compete for food if you feed the angler shrimps. 0ctopussy Feb 14th, 2004, 07:16pm but wut if i get a baby octo but also get a small angler? would that make a difference at all? Jean Feb 14th, 2004, 10:17pm I reckon eventually somebody would be sombody elses dinner! J neptune Feb 14th, 2004, 11:22pm And outside of that they simply do not grow at the same rate! joel_ang Feb 15th, 2004, 04:23am It depends on the exact size, an octo can take on something 1 1/2 times its mantle length and even venomous fish. Sorry to be so negative but octopuses simply don't do well with other fish in aquariums. Colin Feb 15th, 2004, 04:44am doomed to failure... doomed i say... doomed :bugout: joel_ang Feb 15th, 2004, 04:46am But there are a few exceptions :) Seahorses, shrimp, damsels and for me a cuttle. dragonfish Feb 15th, 2004, 06:19am I think all combinations of predatory animals are a matter of luck. you can always try, if you're lucky, you'll have a feature, if not, well you gave it a shot e.g. I once was able to keep 3-5 cm apistogramma ramirezi (a small cichlid) with a 50 cm arowana (big predator with a huge mouth). it went great. the aro I've got now even takes out 20cm fish if they bother him too much. joel_ang Feb 15th, 2004, 06:31am What species of aro? I have to agree with dragonfish, it all really depends on luck especially if the co-habitant is a natural food source like shrimps and octos. dragonfish Feb 15th, 2004, 11:52am the peaceful one was a osteoglossum ferreira or black arowana the one I have now is a O. biccirhossum or silver aro. Scouse Feb 15th, 2004, 03:34pm well thats open to debate, since im an angler an i ate mountains of pulpo an calamari last night     !!!!! joel_ang Feb 16th, 2004, 01:51am Blacks are real beautiful when young, too bad they have to lose their coloration. |
