joel_ , the cuttle fish will be coming i think he said this spring or summer, and my name is Kevin, and YES i brought one home (an octo), i was assured by Jim that the octo would be fine and if i had a problem i could take the lil guy back, but after much discussion, he said there should'nt be a problem i use NSW, im using all cured live rock, and i have my fluaval that i took off my reef tank that TONS OF BACTERIA in it, and he looks pretty good this morning, and if all else failed i could put him in my reef tank ( in the hospital hold pen)but he looks just fine in his new home :D

Congrats on the new pet Kevin! Is he feeding yet?

alien4fish
Feb 11th, 2004, 09:09am
uuum, i dont think my son has named him yet, and yes JOEL_ he is eating i put a small hermit in at first and he ignored it, so i went down to the lfs an picked up some minnows and and gold fish, as soon as the gold fish got down to his den ............................wham! so i hope that kick starts, the relationship we are gonna try and keep the same feeeding schedule as what i run on my reef sys., the only diff. is i feed my reef everyother day and if im not mistaken the octo has to feed everyday right?

joel_ang
Feb 11th, 2004, 09:26am
Try not to feed the octo goldfish as they might haave been previously treated with copper-based medicine and you know what could happen

Joel is right, also the fat in a goldfish is not ideal

alien4fish
Feb 11th, 2004, 07:35pm
i also have frozen mysis shrimp but i havent tryed to feed him that yet, and jim from octopets.com gave me a bunch of live amphipods? i think ther called they (the octo's ) will eat those also right?

Burstsovenergy24
Feb 11th, 2004, 07:38pm
Yeah amphipods are great. :)

joel_ang
Feb 12th, 2004, 01:57am
Amphipods will be eaten by octos but they're for babies, Ghost shrimp crabs and crawfish are taken quite readily.

Colin
Feb 12th, 2004, 02:57am
perhaps jim can supply live crabs????

joel_ang
Feb 12th, 2004, 08:13am
Oh yea, do you live near the beach Kevin, if its not too far, you could try getting hermit crabs or shore shrimp for your octo. :)

alien4fish
Feb 12th, 2004, 11:04am
yeah as a mater of fact i do live close the ocean, we have sand crabs, that live in the sand, and on the jetties we have a bunch red crabs that live on th rocks, in tidal pools we do we crabs, and hermits but im not sure that we can we take off the tidal pools, wich would be th easiest to harvest

joel_ang

Incredibly lucky! Free food for the octo, and quite a variety too. I imagine that he'll be quite pleased. :)
