View Full Version : Lego Squid Model
OctopusV Feb 9th, 2004, 04:35pm The LEGO fansite Brickset.com has released pics of upcoming Lego "Designer Sets" in a nutshell, the point of these sets is to include pieces, instructions, and inspirations, for several different models pertaining to a certain motif of model, in this case, a set for summer release called "Deep Sea Predators" contains at least three models, a Shark, an Anglerfish, and {drumroll} a rather large squid:

NickA5582 Feb 9th, 2004, 06:04pm the squid looks like some kind of 2 beaked bird.....
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 9th, 2004, 06:06pm Only 2 arms? What's up with that?
ant Feb 9th, 2004, 08:39pm you should get like three sets of those and put them together to lookmlike a real squid. then send in improvement photos
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 9th, 2004, 08:45pm Looks Okay posted by OctopusV, on 2/6/2004
Deep Sea Predators? That sounds like my kind of set, although, the squid model on the box doesn't look that great, I hope there are other cephalopod models in the set.
joel_ang Feb 10th, 2004, 03:45am I guess it could be the way they took the picture of the lego (not the box), like those are the tentacles and the arms are shorter and nearer to the mantle.
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 10th, 2004, 06:30pm I hope so, but it doesnt look like it. :(
joel_ang Feb 11th, 2004, 04:09am Pretty disappointing huh :(
But what im really waiting for is a cuttlefish, I mean, they got squid and octi's, why no cuttlefish :x
:P
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 11th, 2004, 02:18pm I think even if they had a Cuttlefish you wouldnt be able to tell any difference from the squid. :(
joel_ang Feb 12th, 2004, 01:58am I wonder how they'll make the fin of the cuttlefish. its so wavy.
OctopusV Feb 13th, 2004, 12:37pm Yeah, I don't think they'll be able to make the curves of the fin unless they come up with a new piece.
joel_ang Feb 13th, 2004, 06:58pm But it would be fun to watch them try :)
OctopusV Feb 13th, 2004, 08:07pm Got me there, Joel
joel_ang Feb 14th, 2004, 07:52am Maybe we should try making cuttles of lego and see what we get. I've made cuttles out of plasticine too but they have long been squashed.
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 14th, 2004, 12:04pm Im thinking of making a giant octo out of pennies. :)
joel_ang Feb 14th, 2004, 06:49pm Well start saving cause you're gonna need quite alot of those. :)
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 14th, 2004, 07:02pm Care to send some pennies to me? :heee:
WhiteKiboko Feb 14th, 2004, 07:05pm do you have any idea how much the 25$ brick of pennies weighs? In other words no.... just collect your change out of fountains like the rest of us.... :)
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 14th, 2004, 07:12pm
Anyway I didnt mean a GPO or something like that just maybe 1000 pennies. :bugout: to :)
um... Feb 14th, 2004, 07:49pm Why not make it out of quarters? Then you'd only need around 40. Waaaaaay easier to collect.
:heee:
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 14th, 2004, 07:52pm Cause if I make it out of pennies I can say it has brass tentacles. :heee:
OctopusV Feb 14th, 2004, 09:57pm Look up something called Coinstruction, they're small clips for coins, no need to stack, make it out of various types of coins, it'll make your octo easier to create.
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 14th, 2004, 10:04pm Yeah I got that once. Im just gonna make it out of super glue though! Im daring!
joel_ang Feb 15th, 2004, 04:43am Good luck on the cointopus then! (fall down! fall down!)
Burstsovenergy24 Feb 15th, 2004, 12:46pm (fall down! fall down!)
:(
OctopusV Feb 19th, 2004, 03:30pm Back on the topic of the Lego Squid (who I've dubbed "Leggy"), the Toy Fansite Altered States Mag, has posted pictutres from New York's Toyfair, showing all major brands' products for this year, in the Lego showroom two designer sets: Deep Sea Predators and Prehistoric, are shown next to each other, as it turns out, Leggy only has two arms, but, Ta-Da! He has a beak! jut look at the picture in the link below!

joel_ang Feb 20th, 2004, 01:29am At least they got one thing right :) But it still looks like quite a pathethic excuse for an Architeuthis if you ask me. :?
OctopusV Feb 20th, 2004, 01:06pm It never said it was specifically an Architeuthis, and the model designers probably didn't want to give it wiggly, useless tube arms and sacrificed anatomical acurracy for play-value, they gave it two poseable arms instead of eight limp worms.
