Well, I came home from work today and found Ink in the back of her tank, gone. I knew it would happen eventually, and have so many good memories of her. We will all miss her.

Hi Carol, sorry to hear the bad news.

At least she has her face in soem magazines and her life has helped lots of new baby bimacs in the world!

Dear Carol,

That's very sad news. Ink was a champion octopus; I don't look at Lego quite the same way, now. I'm sorry for the loss.

Carol,

I agree with all here. Ink was indeed a champion octopus. You did a fantastic job, and we all learned so much through you. Thanks for sharing Ink with us.

Just logged in for the first time in a week and read about Ink...so sorry to hear. She was definitely a unique, fun octo, and your posts about her were great to read. Hope they have legos up in 8 legged heaven! :)

:) I hope they have them too!!!

I see you're from NJ! Do you have an octo yet? There used to be 2 great LFS in Cherry Hill. Martin's Aquarium and one other I used to travel to all the time.

If I haven't already said, :welcome:

Carol,

Thanks for the welcome!

No octo yet...just a 5 gallon SpongeBob aquarium for my 2 year old daughter. However, I just recently found some space where I can put a large tank downstairs. It'll take me a few months to start getting into the saltwater thing. I'd like to see if I can just maintain regular saltwater fish (I know, no copper, etc etc) before trying a trickier cephalopod.

A new aquarium store opened last year in Marlton. They actually seem to know what they're talking about and have some nice, clean reef tanks in their upstairs showroom. (The fishies are downstairs) They even have a tap for RO/DI water...$.50 a gallon. And it's within 10 minutes drive from my home - seems like the place to start doing business with.

Do you still use any stores around the South Jersey area?

$0.50/gallon? gosh!

If he seems knwledgeable and the prices are reasonable, by all means get stuff from him. Quite a few people have kept cephs as their first marine creatures so you could try. :)

$0.50/gallon? gosh!

That's how much I pay for it. I should get a RO/DI filter. :(

Carol-
I was really dreading reading a post such as this. To be 100% honest, it was the reason that I sort of didn't want to pop by. Cephlapods are stange beatsies (as it may seem redundant to you all :)) But I see the love and the hearts that you give to these animals, and even notwithstanding their short lifepans and I really admire that.

I I hope you don;t mind that I screencaptured a picture of ink to draw one day when the feeling is right, she was a really beautiful animal and you know- when you look at a picture of an animal you can just tell when it is happy and content. And of course you get a copy.

Awww crap. How corny of me. These animals who Science forgets because they don't fit their model of "intelligence" and so on. Look at me I'm babbling.

Crap. I admire you people that give excellent loving homes to these animals that only live a year. I can't do that.

Archeopterix - I think the intrigue of these animals makes it sad but ok with their short lifespan! When one passes, I think we mourn for a short time but the lure to experience them again far outways the sadness. And I would love a copy of Ink, should you draw her!!

Jetlee - I havent been to any shops down there in years, but now I may have to take a drive and check out this store you speak of! What is the name and do you have the street address so I can get directions? I probably would be coming down on a Sunday.
