The chances of this being the same Ron who took me on a spin down Macon, Georgia, are exceedingly remote, but I ask anyway.

Now it wouldn't be a sehkrit weapon anymore if I told you, would it. There are spies everywhere ..... and present count has 6 dissenters

Steve, just a suggestion for a sehkrit weapon but could you take one of your frozen mature specimens and strap manouvering thrusters to it. Lights and cameras could be concealed within the mantle cavity and the thing could be driven through the ocean like an organic ROV.

When another archi attempts to mate with it (to increase the chance the specimen could be pumped full of hormones first), hey presto! Out swing the cameras and you have your first pictures.

Of course I'm being deadly serious.

I think we should drag out that old thread with the anti gravity and squid catching devices!

Teuth Sleuth, you lie like a rug! "Sekhrit," as any adolescent girl can tell you, is the Kiwi code name for a ladies' underarm deodorant.

What the O-Man plans to do is deploy samples of this product (approximately ten per squid, for obvious reasons) into sectors of the ocean believed to house a high concentration of Archis. He's hoping that these fastidiously well-groomed cephs will rush to pick up Sekhrit samples, in order to cover up that telltale ammonia scent.

While the Archis are busy applying the Sekhrit, and performing other genteel rituals such as polishing their beaks and putting on mascara, Steve-O' will film them to conclusively refute the bad press they've gotten from anti-teuthite bipeds such as Jules Verne, Peter Benchley, and Stephen Hillenburg.

Face it, O', your cover has been blown, so you may as well admit your plans to your fellow hominids. We promise not to warn the squiddies, who in any event will be vindicated by the fruits of your labors. Or something like that. Barkeep, another  please?

.... actually, you are not that far from the truth .... except I should have said sehkrit weapons, as there are two of them; one smells and one doesn't

Oooh! Oooh! A clue! I know, I know...it's two divers, one without a nose!

Y'see...the one...he's got a nose, so he can...but...the other...um...

Barkeep, SEVERAL more, please...

I will find it.

I've had enough squid to last several lifetimes; I'm all for someone else taking over and giving this a go (I'm actually depending on it). Then I might be able to catch up on several years worth of research!

Eh, Squidman, How old are you? Perhaps we can team up on SOS when I finish school. By the time I finished, Dr.Steve O'Shea will be retired ( I think) Do you plan to retire, or you plan to retire when either a Giant Squid eats you or you see them in the wild?

OctopusV

I just voted "yes". By the time we find the bugger, we will probably be able to mess with time. Just imagine it: losing the lottery before you enter, babies having babies, throw a profilactic into the mix and you can be your grandfather's grandfather!

Dang! I missed that one... sweet, extra padding for that "Steve is a big meanie" file.

"so you see, my supervisor thinks I'm a pangolin..."
"yes, that would explain the lack of feedback"
"and the irrational fear of tin openers"
"and the psychotic glee when you remove scales from fishes"
"and the dirty claws"
"Silence!"

I vote for a giant ammonite sighting like Parapuzosia seppenradensis... Somewhere, I have a picture of me with a model of one from a museum in Paris. I will have to dig it up  and post it sometime.
