Steve O'Shea

Hi all; heads up. Tintenfisch, aka , also aka fellow moderator, has her oral defence today for her doctoral thesis (NZ 18 September). Wish her the best; there's 5 years of her life tied up in this.
I have a special treat lined up; we're going to play Neil Diamond for the duration!

Didn't want to claim credentials that aren't yet mine, that's all - been trying to grow a beard for years without any luck.
Best to you, Kat!

I thought it might - I'm sure the half-bottle of port didn't help either.
Well, I've just dragged myself the last few stairs up from the dungeon, oozing blood from the thousand paper cuts inflicted by four copies of my thesis, positively gushing blood from the ears thanks to extended ND exposure, yet somehow still able to hear faint cries of 'Teke-li-li!'
... I think it went fine, partially due to the fact that Dick Young and Bruce Marshall are really nice guys. Now I have to tend to several pages of editorial comments, print and bind the damn thing... but it looks like I will gradgitate in October!

Yes, thinking of changing to 'Dr. Sagrin'... you can ask Steve why
Anyway, thanks, guys! Just working through all the final editorial

The :diamond_trans: appreciation scholarship for excellence and secret :diamond_trans: adoration. Secretly the girl loves the man and has as many LPs as I do. That's why she's stayed for so long!
I wonder what she'll say about me when I'm gone? I hope she's colour blind, like me, because I'm sure she'll write something cutting soon enough

Iä! Iä! The eND is nigh!
Final bound copies allegedly ready for pickup this morning... woot! And yes, it looks like I will be staying on another year, partly to help with the influx of other cephy grad-students, partly to oversee a strict glove-wearing-at-all-times policy, and partly to enjoy the peace and solitude of a sound-proof office.

If you email me the pdf, I can put it on wunderp.us for now and link to it. I'm not sure how to add pdfs on tonmo itself, though...

It happens tomorrow; I'll be sure to post pics.
Does Neil do a cover of "Pomp and Circumstance"?

Thanks again for all the well-wishes, everyone! I will probably be a little scarce around here for the next month or so still - some other fairly major events happening in coming weeks, but as of mid-November I'll be settling into a one-year postdoc at AUT and should be around pretty much all the time again.

A late but none-the-less heartfelt congratulations from all us in the great snowy North (on both occasions). We all wished we could have been there (for both occasions. Geez you really pack things in together!). Next time you're in the area stop by for a celebratory ride. Free of charge for Doctors.

Little update on the thesis: I submitted it to Zootaxa (http://www.mapress.com/zootaxa/) as a monograph earlier this year and have just heard back from the editor/reviewers. Three cheers for 'accept with minor revisions'! Woot.
