View Full Version : New German Jellyfish tank
dwhatley Jul 15th, 2008, 10:21pm I wonder if this will make it to the states and be affordable. It seems like a potential direction for small egged octos ...

Keith Jul 16th, 2008, 06:06pm thats cool. my fiance really wants a jellyfish tank. but theyre so damn EXPENSIVE.
daddysquoc Jul 16th, 2008, 08:59pm only problem is finding decent jellies......
Keith Jul 17th, 2008, 01:03am oh man i wish i had bookmarked the site i found. it had anything you could ever want
Taollan Jul 17th, 2008, 05:01am I have been wishing for years that I could get a descent plankton kreisel to attempt raising planktonic octopus paralarvae. Its the whole expense that kills. Making them is pretty hard as well.
Jean Jul 17th, 2008, 04:59pm I think Kreisals have been around for a bit...no sign of the price coming down though

gholland Jul 17th, 2008, 06:05pm DIY!
Jean Jul 17th, 2008, 09:24pm me DIY numbskull, fingers all thumbs, permanently tripping over own feet......VERY bad idea!!!!
I once stepped off our front path onto the lawn tripped and broke my leg in several places (requiring 11 pins and a plate to repair) I shudder to think what I could do with a drill, hammer, glue etc!

gholland Jul 17th, 2008, 09:35pm Yeah Jean, but just remember that it's not about the pain, it's about the economics... the hospital visit could still be cheaper than that commercial tank!
Keith Jul 17th, 2008, 10:29pm ouch jean. that sounds horrible. are there any do it yourself jelly plans out there?
gholland Jul 18th, 2008, 12:04am Lots. Just google "DIY Kreisel (http://www.google.com/search?q=diy+kreisel&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7ADBF)"
Keith Jul 18th, 2008, 02:37am thanks. i never wouldve thought they'd be so expensive for how theyre made. the only thing im still stuck on is the filter system and how the water flow is set up.
Jean Jul 18th, 2008, 03:58am Yeah Jean, but just remember that it's not about the pain, it's about the economics... the hospital visit could still be cheaper than that commercial tank!
Well yes as Hospitals are free in NZ (unless you go private) 6 months off work was a little pricey though!

dwhatley Aug 3rd, 2008, 10:32pm Amazon sent me this link to a new book on keeping Jellyfish in an aquarium. I am tempted to get it and I thought others might be interested:

esquid Aug 4th, 2008, 09:41pm here's a link to the publisher of the that has an excerpt:

I do wish they had gotten reviews from people that aren't the author's coworkers though.

now creeping off to watch Hammer Peter Cushing films
dwhatley Aug 4th, 2008, 10:53pm esquid,
Thanks for the find. I'll return the favor (if you have not already read it) with a rather nice write up on Peter Cushing as I am not a horror film fan and had to look him up:

shipposhack Aug 5th, 2008, 02:01am jelliquarium.com has kreisel tanks. They start at 2 or 3 thousand :).

Thanks, that is a pretty decent entry on him. It doesn't talk about one of his acting trade marks though: massive usage of props. If you want to see what I'm talking about watch "Hound of the Baskervilles" (it's also Christopher Lee's only romantic lead role).
diyit Aug 11th, 2008, 02:04am there is an interesting company called jellyfish art. wouldn't buy a tank from them, look expensive, but they have a ton of cool jellies. not sure if i'm allowed to link to the website on here but they have one

A link would be great, as long as it's on topic (e.g. not to unrelated ads or porn or something.)
cephaloholic Aug 15th, 2008, 01:08pm Midwater Systems.com sell moon jellyfish and kreisel tanks along with jelly polyps and frag tanks
