View Full Version : cartoon octopus sightings
Melissa Oct 17th, 2003, 01:29pm New York offered some land-octopus sightings last week. These cartoons were sent by a friend who is a frequent TONMO guest.
The octo with the clear siphon and five visible legs is from a sushi menu. The other is a sticker seen on a parking meter. :bonk:

o.vulgaris Oct 17th, 2003, 09:17pm cool, very nice pics, thanks for telling us about em'.
So....when will there be tonmo stickies for download? :D
Clem Oct 17th, 2003, 11:42pm Melissa,
Here's the Avenue A octo's cranky Japanese cousin (http://www.dedaito.com/frame/ariake_sea/sign/fujiharu/tako.gif), flipping out and inking.
Clem
Melissa Oct 18th, 2003, 11:25am I'd ink too if the sushi chef was after me!

Archeopterix Nov 2nd, 2003, 07:52pm It was on some squid chips that I got from the Chinatown in my city, I took that pic and threw out the wrapper, so I don't remember what they were called, or even if there was any English on them at all.

Oh, cool! Melissa and I had lunch in Manhattan's Chinatown a few weeks ago, and we bought a bag of Squid Chips for Tony. (Well, actually they were Cuttlefish Chips, but they had a pic of a Squid on the front.) Anyway, the chips were stamped with all kinds of really cute seafood images, but we don't know how they tasted because -- well, we sent them to Tony. Tony, how did they taste?

I see the barcode. :D

Well, over here in S E Asia, squid and cuttles are regarded as more or less the same thing. I don't know why but they don't seem to tell the difference  I have to admit, squid chips ARE nice.....though I'm allergic to them. :heee:

It's always surprised me that in the cultures where Cephs are most commonly present (Asian and Polynesian), they seem to make the least amount of linguistic distinction between the various species. But this happens in many cultures with many kinds of animals -- I guess that's why scientific names of species were invented :)

I once ordered cold shredded jellyfish as an appetizer at a Chinatown restaurant. Looked like sauerkraut. Tasted like rubber bands. Had a couple of bites. Will not be doing so in the future. Would rather eat Vegemite.
joel_ang Nov 5th, 2003, 10:17pm I think both jellyfish and Vegemite taste good
Anyway, I was watchin Tom and Jerry a couple of hours ago and there was this episode where Tom was having a dream ( while drowning). Tom was chasing Jerry who had become a mermouse and an octopus grabbed him.
Well thats my dumb cartoon octopus sighting. :)
Melissa Nov 5th, 2003, 10:50pm I think both jellyfish and Vegemite taste good
Joel, I'm with you, but not really on the vegemite, it's too salty, but goes well on celery (in small doses). I like jellies, but I don't want to eat a whole one? a whole serving? an entire order? by myself.
Do octos eat jellies? I suppose that's a question for the cephkeepers. In another thread, a sort of anemone pest was mentioned as shrimp food, which in turn became octopus food.
Melissa
joel_ang Nov 5th, 2003, 10:55pm I doubt they would eat jellies.I mean their skin isn't tough and looks pretty stingable. A bit of vegemite on toast and wheat crackers are nice.

Not that I know of, but hard to tell in gut content analysis cos soft bodied critters like this digest very easily.
course one way to tell would be .....if you see an octi going

Nothing, if they're grape jellies.

Hardy har har....( there should be a sarcasm smiley  )
How did we get onto the topic of vegemite and jellyfish. We all have short attention spans eh?
joel_ang Nov 6th, 2003, 12:40am No offence Vegemite but songs like that are extremely annoying,
high
especially when sung in pitch.

joel_ang Nov 6th, 2003, 01:30am Hey my signature doesn't have to be based on the song byJulie Andrews, it could be one of the longest words. :D
Archeopterix Nov 6th, 2003, 09:35am Does your sig say discus at the end for a reason? Is it a discus enthusiast pun? I know they're fragile and super, but I don't think they come from Cali.... :bonk:
I love the "bonk" smiley. I want to marry it.
joel_ang Nov 6th, 2003, 08:07pm Well personally I don't like discus, I prefer arowana. I just copied and pasted the whole thing from some site so ask them why they spelt it wrongly.
Archeopterix Nov 11th, 2003, 09:47am Arowanas are nice, but I feel sorry for them cause of the way they are caught.
We forgot Squidward!

Yea verily, we shall never forget Squidward! In fact, I believe the very first thing I posted to this site (about two years ago) was a question about what kind of Cephalopod has six legs and plays the clarinet badly?
PS: Great graphic!

(Tony, how come we don't have a Squidward emoticon?)
joel_ang Nov 12th, 2003, 07:32pm How could we have forgotten our dear beloved Squidward  . Well maybe he ate his own arms due to the stress :spongebo: and Patrick are giving him  .
Well which part of capture are you refering to Archie?
um... Nov 13th, 2003, 05:10am (Tony, how come we don't have a Squidward emoticon?)
This is the best I could do at 4AM. Hooray for insomnia!

tonmo Nov 13th, 2003, 09:00pm nice! I've been looking for a good one (for Tani... she's been waiting for this)... will add post haste
o.vulgaris Nov 13th, 2003, 09:40pm what we really need is a patrick (from spongebob anime) avatar that bump's into a wall repeatedly (since patrick is very... well challenged, persay), maybe it could mean (clumsy or foolish) but in a good way of course.
oh, where's the gary (spongebob's pet snail) avatar?

Oh, yeah. How could we not have a Patrick smiley? Can't be too hard to draw that guy  . If one doesn't show up by Sunday, I'll have at least a crude one ready. (whether Tony cares to add it or not)
...that bump's into a wall repeatedly
That'd be a little tough to do. Hilarious, though.
NickA5582 Nov 14th, 2003, 05:27pm How aboot jellyfish and Mr. Krabs while you're at it  ?
While you're at it, make an Alfred E. Neuman (MAD Mag mascot) too please.)

I'll do whatever I gots ta.
WhiteKiboko Nov 14th, 2003, 06:07pm in response to the overload of spongebob related requests for smilies, id like to request peter lorre and kirk douglas smilies.....
come on.... we can express ourselves quite thoroughly with the english language (maybe better than any other language) thus negating any need for asinine doodles....
just my :twocents:
supernick Nov 14th, 2003, 06:15pm Gimme a Mario, Yoshi, and Bart Simpson smilies while you're at it.
Plus a wopper, side order of supersized fries...
just the ones on top. thanks. :spongebo: :squidwar:
TaningiaDanae Nov 14th, 2003, 06:38pm WK, I don't think there would be anything inappropriate about another SBSP emoticon, since the show is majorly TONMOesque.
I don't think we really need Mr. Krabs or Gary or the jellyfish. However, PATRICK would complete the trio quite nicely, plus we could use him very effectively whenever someone posts something incredibly stoopit (with affection, of course :D )
My two gold doubloons --
Aaaargh!

Squidward's border needs to be adjusted.
Is patrick too big?
WK does have a point. We can't be adding too many smilies to the list, especially if they don't convey any meaning. We really only need a dozen, but we have nearly 100.
Guess I don't have to finish drawing the big, white hippo.
WhiteKiboko Nov 14th, 2003, 07:04pm Guess I don't have to finish drawing the big, white hippo.
im almost positive that i read somewhere that a white hippo emoticon was a sign of the the apocalypse....
o.vulgaris Nov 15th, 2003, 06:53pm hmm, don't you guy's think it would be better to just make a smiley's request thread?
that way everyone can say their suggestion's for smilies in a appropriate thread, even though this okay lol. :)
TaningiaDanae Nov 17th, 2003, 01:55am Is patrick too big?
I can't see Patrick at all! Is there something wrong with my system?
um... Nov 17th, 2003, 07:51am I can't see Patrick at all! Is there something wrong with my system?
Nope. What I was trying to do didn't work. Apparently, there was something wrong with my brain.
Anyway, here he is:
o.vulgaris Nov 18th, 2003, 09:46pm that patrick smily is cool, you konw um... you should be appointed tonmo.com gfx support or gfx team manager since you are making all these great smilies for our use. you must be good in graphics eh?

Thanks, O. I can trace with the best of 'em. Well, maybe not the best of 'em. I haven't drawn anything except doodles and graphs since maybe 1989, when they last forced me to take art class. I've been trying to do more doodling recently, but I certainly ain't no Tin10 :goldfish: or Phil when it comes to making the smilies. I'm happy to do the 4 click transparency thing for whatever smilies are tossed my way (limit ~10 per day ), and I'm learning the finer points of making animated gifs. Them's me skilz. :(
