Hello everyone.. I have been keeping cephalopods for 5 months now and love every minute.... I have a 265 gallon reef system with octopus in it for 3 months now.. I'm glad to have found this forum to share my knowledge of these very little known animals, as well as learn from others...
Thank you for having me...:talker:

Whose avatar? I doubt that it would be mine (it's a NZ octopus Pinnoctopus cordiformis) bit rare in your neck of the woods I would think  maybe Carols (Corw314)?

Vulgaris... Or common octopus...
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you guys... I'm new to this site but in no way at all new to the hobby... I have been keeping saltwater for over 10 years now and started with a 125 gallon tank and a 55 gallon live rock sump in 96'.... I kept my first octopus in 03'... Fed him the same crabs I feed mine today... But shortly after I got this animal(3 months) I ran into a nitrate problem that killed my little friend.... Today I keep 2 in 180 gallon SPs reef both vulgaris... I have 1 in a 20 gallon in my tv stand that is also doing well... I have had them all for 3 months on saturday...

How big of a tank do vulgaris need once they reach full size? and how big is the one in the 20? How fast do vulgaris grow, and how long do they live? I'm not criticizing, just asking as I believe you are the first person to have vulgaris since i joined. It seems that after 3 months, if a vulgaris grew at the same rate as other octos, it would outgrow the 20. again, not criticizing, I just have no knowledge of vulgaris :bonk:.

Not sure the size but I have kept them 125+ tanks starting them out in 20 gallons to sort of teach them to eat from my hands... Which may not be the best way but has been working for me for a while... Until I try to keep a Bluering lol..

Poisonous bite...lol
