..... no, this is not an invitation to post pictures of your freezer (or frost-bitten feet).
I'm going to torment you .... within this freezer is some pretty sensational stuff .... as in only known specimens of a few things, and some otherwise pretty neat material (a few press releases at least). We'll haul a little bit out of it every couple of weeks. At an offsite facility we keep the really big things (freezers, refrigerated transport, and offsite refrigerated facilities cost me an annual fortune - ~ $6000!).
If you're sitting there bored one day, and we haven't posted anything new for a while, tell me to go to the freezer and we'll see what we can find.
Cheers

Ohhhh, you're no fun.
Go to the freezer! Go to the freezer! :)
Curious, how long can you keep things "good" in there for? I mean, when I throw some steak in my freezer, I believe it can only stay in there for a certain period before it goes bad (I'm not sure how long that is, I usually eat it pretty fast :) ) Something like 6 months?
Also, what if you have a power outage, heaven forbid? You have a generator on that thing?

Patience is my middle name; I don't have to eat this stuff you know.
There's something rather neat in a polystyrene box in that freezer that's been frozen since 1998 .... I only picked it up last week mind you .... but it's probably one of the most priceless possessions in there (and it will be alright for a few more years).
:cthulhu:
Do you ever use a -80??? I had some of my stuff in there, but needed the ol' asbestos (or some politically correct stuff) gloves to get anything out! Made it difficult to rake round in it to see what was there!

Wow, that looked like a frozen mammoth...
Or maybe it was The Thing (little nod to John Carpenter).
Or maybe you found remains of the Elder Things.. :cthulhu:
Or maybe some of those ice worms from the X-Files...
Hmmm....
Or maybe its Sushi and Sake!

My freezer is empty.
For the love of God, Steve, please show us some of that "pretty neat material" sometime soon. You're killing us.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I read a story once when I was kid.
These two boys get the idea to prepare a "gourmet" dinner for their parents and for some reason they pick up a frozen octopus.
They get that they need to thaw it out first. They go watch tv for a while, go back in the kitchen and it's moving around on the counter, it's eyes watching every move they make.
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that this bizarre episode is what first interested me in the octopus and it took all this time and TONMO to satisfy a curiosity I'd forgotten about until now.
So, freezer Steve. Is this crazy event possible?

Hmmmm, CSL, I don't think it that likely that a frozen octopus came back to life (I think someone's been pulling your leg).
Seems like there are a few people out there that want to know what's in that freezer. I'd best check that poll out to find out what I should (or what you thought I should) open up first.
I'm afraid this week is an absolute nightmare ..... we've just set up the new culture facilities, and now have to stock them with both food and squid. There'll be a post or two on 'Never a dull moment in NZ/Architeuthis research' before we post on goodies in the fridge. You lot certainly are demanding!!!
Why don't a few of you converge on NZ and help us out over here? We have a posh new boat with a big horse on the back - we can even get it up to 40 knots (or so they tell me - it's still in the driveway until I sort a few matters out).
Lemme go check that I plugged that freezer in

If I had a place to stay and a reliable source of food, I'd be happy to be your boat chauffeur and squid-corpse-carrier down there. :) America is getting boring, I only stick around because it's easy to get toys that I like here!

.... I need to play with some frozen squid; it's about time I pull something from that freezer ay wot! Lemme have a peek in there and see what we have left. Could be a problematic genus on its way for defrosting very soon.

good point, yo
Tintenfisch, can you check to make sure Steve didn't lock himself in the freezer, like in that Brady Bunch episode? :goofysca:

What I never told you is that that kind of plastic-burlap bag just visible toward the bottom is :oshea: and his continued 'posting' is all part of the cover-up...
Who dreamed about me chopping someone up again?

Oh, and based on the above confession, I hereby absolve you, :canada:, of your obligation to continue your fruitless attempts to restore a certain gray rag to a certain, shall we say, frosty teuthologist. Heck, I'll even store it in there with him.

It's awfully quite on P & B, so I've pulled a couple of 'things' out of the freezer. Will have pics of weird, wonderful and bizarre squid online very soon (a day or so) .... new species galore!
bumping this... a day or so... 5 years later!
