View Full Version : briareus? dreadhead Jan 6th, 2008, 01:08pm here are some pics of my new guy.any help with id would be great. simple Jan 6th, 2008, 01:51pm yup, looks like o. briareus to me. Does it have a lot of webbing? If you dont mind me asking, where did you get him? dreadhead Jan 6th, 2008, 02:15pm an awful lot of webbing.i got him at country critters long island new york.great place but they dont know much about octos'but at least he's honest about it. simple Jan 6th, 2008, 02:19pm yea im pretty confident it's briareus. I find it so weird that i live in Florida (where briareus are commomly found) yet i cant find anyone thats currently selling one. haha, thats the pet trade i guess. Just wondering, at what time does he usually come out? dreadhead Jan 6th, 2008, 02:20pm he has two stumps, but other than that he seems fine. very playfull. dreadhead Jan 6th, 2008, 02:23pm usually just after lights out.or when im doing a water change. i guess he wants to see whats going on. Nancy Jan 7th, 2008, 01:14am The eyes look like a briareus and it's nocturnal. Does it have deep webbing? and do you ever see an iridescent blue-green color? Nice octopus! Nancy shipposhack Jan 7th, 2008, 03:07am Nancy, maybe you skimmed over this part of tread's second post: an awful lot of webbing... A more detailed description would be nice, however. I believe the pictures show iridescent blue-green. I hope this post doesn't come across poorly; I mean no harm  Nancy Jan 7th, 2008, 03:20am Sorry I missed the part about the webbing - I had looked at this thread before and just skimmed over it again. It's good if we actually hear the description (like the blue green color) from the owner, photos can be deceiving. So far it could be a briareus. Nancy dreadhead Jan 7th, 2008, 07:11am he has the blue-green color, and sometimes he is a greyish color with rusty red patches.sorry i didn't add any description with my first post,i was a little excited about my new octo, and wanted to share some pics and maybe get ad id at the same time.thank you for your help. Colin Jan 7th, 2008, 07:32pm yep, id say briareus too - nice octo :) dreadhead Jan 7th, 2008, 07:51pm he is eating well, and very active.fun to watch. Colin Jan 8th, 2008, 07:14pm Thats good news, is the octopus mostly nocturnal or getting used to being out through the day? dreadhead Jan 8th, 2008, 07:33pm mostly nocturnal.he was out a little today, but i think he was just moving from one hiding spot to another. dreadhead Jan 14th, 2008, 04:44pm I'm going to have to change what I said in my last post.he comes out all the time day or night.Still doing well,he even eats from my hand.Sometimes I think he is more interested in my hand. sorseress Jan 15th, 2008, 02:14am He may well be! Be careful how much you let him grab you. There's a thread somewhere about octo bites, with some interesting pictures of bites. dreadhead Jan 19th, 2008, 01:18am He has been on my hand, thank god no bites.I'm more worried about whats on my hand than getting bit. |
