Hello!

No, but I GAVE my infant son an octopus mobile for his carrier. Its an octopus, with a fish, seastar, and crab hanging from the arms. I should have him classifying them by phyla probably in about a year or so... :P

Sushi and Sake,

John

Oh, and Happy Holidays!

I truly lucked out. I have a great relationship with the local pet store, and I am their resident vet. I usually stop in 2-3 times a week to see if any of their animals need any care.

Anyway... they all knew I have been planning on getting an octopus for a while and have been doing my research. They bought me a tank, cabinet, and canopy, and convinced their Hagen rep to donate most of the other supplies needed.

I had already purchased a 125 gallon wet/dry with a refugium and a Prism Pro Skimmer, so I should have my octo tank set up and running within 2 weeks. (With the addition of a Fluval 404 canister filter --- can't really have too much filtration, right?)

I couldn't be more pleased or touched.

Sincerely thankful,
David

Yay John!

Why not pop a picture and some details in 'Fossils' sometime soon. Maybe we can find out some info for you. (Mind you, the trouble with belemnites is that they all look so similar).

One of my housemates gave me Ellis's "The Search for the Giant Squid," which was well-received as my older copy is in storage. Also: a foam giant squid that expands in water. That one will probably find its way into someone's bath on April Fools Day.

Those foam squid look cool in a 1.5 L Coke bottle! We sell them at work and were getting tired of Kids spilling water from the basin everywhere! So we put it in a coke bottle (OK the first one - a foam whale - went in a bourbon bottle, but we don't have another bottle  ).

I gotta an octopus ornament a :coffee: mug with and octopus on it and a pottery jug and dish with cuttles and squid on them!

Very cool!

I got this cool lamp from my sister in London. I would have posted this earlier but it's taken me a while to get the right kind of bulb for it.

Matt,

That lamp is amazing! It's exactly what I'm trying to create for one of my next couple Cthulhu-cabaret shows, only there it would be worn as a headdress - with tentacles.

Back to the "what did you get" thread - for Valentine's Day I got Rebecca an Octopus mylar balloon about six feet across where each of the tentacles is clutching one of those chalky valentines' heart candies that say "Be Mine", "I'm Yours", or "Hug Me". I found this in the floral section of my local LA supermarket. Amazing! Plus, since it's mylar, we can have it refilled when it runs out of helium.

Once again, Matt, that lamp is fantastic.

Back in 1996 I saw a custom canvas tent at the Burning Man festival in Nevada that looked like a nautliloid shell. The entire thing just folded-out from the hub in the center and could then be staked-down against the wind. It took the creator about five minutes to set-up camp; he was camped about 50 meters from where we were. The tent's owner was also very smart regarding the prevailing winds - the tent was oriented so that it provided no resistance in the late-afternoon wind. As dust-storms would occur, it barely moved. It looked an awful lot like your lamp, except it was big enough to stand inside. Terrific engineering feat.

Matt!! Where did you find a bulb?? I have a bulbless one sitting on a bookshelf that has been sadly awaiting its chance to shine since Christmas!

My friends just came back from Thailand and brought me a gift - it's a little stuffed octopus that's all white (except some lines which I guess are a suggestion of where to put stripes, which I will ignore) -- it comes with four markers so that you can colour it yourself! Pretty neat. I don't know what to do. Maybe I'll make it a blue-ringed.
