... despite, or perhaps because of, seeing photos of him in the curly blonde wig.

I'll pack it just in case it's needed/warranted

That thing's never going to make it past US Customs, man. You'd have better luck trying to smuggle in something a little less toxic, like a bottle of VX gas.

What do you all think about postponing TONMOcon? There are a couple of compelling reasons to do so, not the least of which is that some of the important figures won't be able to make it in April. Late summer would be the soonest it would happen, depending on the schedules of TONMO celebrities.

I do personally think summer is better.

As I said in Chat the other night, Melissa is a SUPERSTAR for what she's done to begin pulling TONMOcon together, you guys have no idea. As such, she is 100% in charge of this puppy, and I support whatever decisions she makes, and am here at her disposal to help out in any way she needs!

So cool that it will be in Boston...
Just wanted to add another voice of support for postponing in until later this year. I'm hoping to combine it with a research trip and April's a little soon...

That's settled - I'll call the aquarium tomorrow. This will give us some time to convince some muckety mucks somewhere that this is a great opportunity and they should seize it!

If my plans go well, I still have to go to Boston to research the restaurants before April. :)

Y'all should bring along the Hippo for that research.

Jan 14th, 2004, 11:19pm
Um,

The Hippo, with his heat-retaining mass, is arguably better suited to Boston's current temperature than the thin-but-wiry Clem.

Melissa, that sweet new Mesonychoteuthis model that Steve has would make quite a splash if, say, it were to appear among the swan boats in Boston Common.

actually, ive already found one i want to hit.... Ming Tsai has one in the boston area called Blue Ginger, but i think its in Wellsley, thats quasi close right TTF?

While Hippos do retain heat well, when was the last time you saw one in subfreezing temps? (in the wild, for all you of quick mouth)

I agree... itd be nice if a Squid would terrorize the town for a day or two...

I think that the local authorities would put 2 and 2 together rather fast though...Tonmocon and a sudden appearance of giant squid (s)...

We haven't even looked at the calendar for August yet, so anything is possible. But it really depends more on Steve's schedule than anyone else's. After trying to pin down dates the first time, I think he's the busiest TONMOer if not the busiest person in all New Zealand.

hey all, I went to the baltimore aquarium just a few day's ago, I must say it's a great event, they have like this 3d documentary movie and it was great, but unfortunately I forgot what it's called, its sorta like IMAX theater's in case anyone knows what it is. There are many places to go to around the baltimore aquarium, hard rock cafe, a HUGE barnes&noble bookstore, many local grub stops, hehe and malls--I think it's 2 of them which connect together snd one lead's you to a hotel. There is also a huge port with this gigantic ship at dock, very cool! There is a huge and beautiful restaurant less than a block away with many aqautic decoration's, indeed a must see place!
Also is there a schedule of some sort set up, melissa if you be so kind to pm me a week or two before you have everything planned out I would be most grateful so I can schedule ahead to take a few day's off from work and school. try to keep us updated mel. :)

So, any updates on tonmocon I?
Is it a for sure thing that it will be held this summer or it's still not a certain thing?
I and probably a few other's need to know the schedule ahead of time, that way I can plan out everything and take a few days off from work and school. :)
Oh boy, Im real excited, more than seeing steve's sequel on discovery channel to show this march I think, j/k Im more excited for this lol... :oshea: :squidaut:

Hi Dave

I'm excited for TONMOcon, too, but there's no news. We'll go over the dates when Steve O and Tony and other luminaries can make it and then it's time to find out what dates are possible with the venues. I'm betting sometime in the fall.

Hi Dave

It looks like I will be away for a few months (away from home, but not from work or TONMO) so autumn would be the earliest time. Steve's schedule needs to be sorted before we start talking about dates. I'm sorry for delays, but we're making sure it will be a good time for all who attend.

Hey lot, its been a long time since I stopped bye, but a new addition to the family came along and my studies got in the way as well. Its been so long since we all spoke of tonmo-con but I hope to change that. A bit less than halfway into the summer break, we should definetly start making finalized plans, and get things moving!
Any help I can offer to you mel or tony, please pm me.

Best Regards,

Wow, its been a long time since I came to these forums. Well with the site and all. I decided the ncaa wasn't for me after all. I changed my career path's and went into medicine. Anyhow, I still will do this all as a hobby; so when's the event?!? :)

Melissa

While I was away, there was some talk with an aquarium in Florida, and I'll pick up on this. August in the US is a notoriously bad time to plan anything, while everyone is on vacation, so I'll send a note but not expect any response right away. Any news will of course be posted here.

I now can dedicate time to this, helping with setting it up, medical services, transportation, food, etc. Just pm me. :)

Hi Greg --

Next summer already? Fanfreakintastic! Except, if we're taking a vote on TONMOcon times when Mel gets back, may I humbly suggest anytime except 17-19 June or 19-21 August? (AnimeNext and Otakon, respectively, both of which I'm already registered for.)

Psyched to see everyone,

We'll see how this goes. We're still looking for a venue. This is a dratted week for trying to get in touch with anyone, so I'll wait until I'm back in NYC before getting updates on where we stand. You will be the first to know!

Sa-wa-dee-ka Melissa,

How was your Christmas in the Land of the Royal White Elephant? It was great to see that you found time in your hectic schedule to keep up with TONMO posts! If you get a chance again, let us know how you're doing over there. Have a beautiful New Year, and let's see what we can do about arranging a Big Apple Cephalofan Dinner -- Clem, are ya listening? -- when you return next month.

Many-armed hugs from your benthic bud,
Tani

I had a lovely xmas dinner, all about food rather than presents, and then slept through the earthquake this morning. I am fine. The earthquake in Indonesia has sent tidal waves across the Indian ocean. Many fisherman in India and Sri Lanka and probably elsewhere are missing. The tourists who are missing are primarily divers.

I've just gotten a message from another person interested in TONMOcon. Let's see what venues are amenable come January.

Things here in Bangkok are all right, but the news from the south and elsewhere around the Indian Ocean is very grim.

I went up the Chao Praya river two days ago, and the river is higher than I've ever seen it. Stranger than high water in the dry season was that the river had changed direction to flow upstream away from the sea!

The tsunami can only have been terrible for anything human or animal in the way of the waves. In addition to the tragic human losses around the Indian Ocean, ecologists have warned that sand deposited on coral reefs in shallow water may kill some reefs. The crushing power of the tsunami may have broken reefs.
