Natural Home magazine (Sept/Oct 2007) has an article about a house design based on a nautilus shell (and some musical theme) as an architecture project:

http://cu.naturalhomemagazine.com/pages/gallery.php?gallery=295816

the web version doesn't include the floor plan that makes that clear, so here's a scan...

5486

It also has a tower, always good for houses for eccentric mad scientists... no moats or giant aquarium rooms (also no astronomy dome) sadly, and a bit lacking in the workshops, laboratories, libraries, and secret passages, but still, an inspirational home...

Cool, Monty. Nice find and a great topic for a thread. Here's a nautiloid scheme for a multiplex cinema (http://www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/1269_zoomorphic/templatenautilus.htm) by Wilkinson Eyre Architects.

Cheers,
Clem
