How do you rate this song? Amusing or an embarrassment? Do you turn the volume up on the radio or hurl a fistful of ammonites at it?

View Full Version : Poll: What do you think of the Beatles' 'Octopus's Garden?' Phil Aug 21st, 2003, 06:47am How do you rate this song? Amusing or an embarrassment? Do you turn the volume up on the radio or hurl a fistful of ammonites at it? Steve O'Shea Aug 21st, 2003, 07:13am You're a true pal Phil!! When I find that extant ammonite I'll name it after you! May Neil live long and prosper! Phil Aug 21st, 2003, 07:14am You're a true pal Phil!! When I find that extant ammonite I'll name it after you! Ah, shucks! dbbga Aug 21st, 2003, 07:29am Well actually I really like that song and the skit done by the Muppet Show put it to good use. I even put it on my octo video. As a child I always wanted an octo and TV was the closest i thought i would ever get to one. Now I really do have and Octopus' garden, right here in my livingroom!!!!!!!. My kids had never heard that song before  and now when i play the video they sing it, amazing, I just revealed my age LOL  cthulhu77 Aug 21st, 2003, 08:26am Whenever I am having a rotten day, all I have to do is start whistling that song, and I get a big grin on my face...it may be "fluff", but it sure is a great tune for getting happy! Greg WhiteKiboko Aug 21st, 2003, 10:33am It's pretty hard to argue against live and let die..... cthulhu77 Aug 21st, 2003, 05:22pm Not all of that cheerful though, is it???? I mean, I guess if you want to be an assassin or something, it is fine, but as far as looking at life through some rose-coloured gardener's glasses, it is far from perfect! :D Greg Cortum Aug 21st, 2003, 08:53pm Whenever I am having a rotten day, all I have to do is start whistling that song, and I get a big grin on my face...it may be "fluff", but it sure is a great tune for getting happy! Greg I showed my gf that video with the song - she loved it and ended up watching the video about 10 times. Now whenever one of us gets stressed we start to sing that song and then we can't help but laugh (and then get it stuck in our heads for the rest of the day) I showed it to her to convince her that she wants a little octo - I think it worked! tonmo Aug 21st, 2003, 09:01pm I'm a big ol' Beatles fan, they never did anything wrong so far as I can see. Song in question included. I answered #4... :D Big Wings fan too, although they DID do plenty wrong... and Live and Let Die was among my least favorite of their hits. cthulhu77 Aug 22nd, 2003, 07:41am The best thing about Live and Let Die was the movie...mostly due to the huge amount of herps in it (including a rare (at that time) Emerald tree boa) and the 7-UP guy with that wicked laugh. Oh yeah, and the hot girls, of course!!! Headfoot Aug 26th, 2003, 01:34am Gloriously silly stuff. Ringo gets to sing, and remind us that clenching one's buttocks whilst furrowing the brow does not a better world make. Tentacular! Aug 26th, 2003, 01:54am Hang on...... (clenching and furrowing) :goofysca:  :| You're right. The world hasn't noticeably improved. cthulhu77 Aug 26th, 2003, 08:13am Mine's better! :D Infusoria Jan 9th, 2005, 06:00pm Hang on...... (clenching and furrowing) :goofysca:  :| You're right. The world hasn't noticeably improved. And my keys have vanished...eek! Scouse Jan 10th, 2005, 05:30am Its a crackin little cheeky song that, u'd have to be mad to take it seriously!! Although since you mention live and let die, im sure you would of been impressed with the onstage an above stage firework display when Mcartney sung live an let die at glastonury last year. Finished the show an went off like a bomb. It was a good old beatlesy sing song when he wasnt playin his new stuff which he didnt much at all. DHyslop Jan 10th, 2005, 09:49am I would argue that the song is actually considerably more serious than it seems. With the turmoil the band was in at the time, I'm sure Ringo's sentiments weren't far out of phase with the lyrics. He's certainly singing with a little harsher emotion in his voice than other instances where he sang. As for Wings, I'll take Band on the Run any day. Dan Fujisawas Sake Jan 10th, 2005, 12:26pm While I like the Beatles, they aren't The Ramones... :band: Heh heh... John "Now I guess I'll have to tell 'em, that I got no cerebellum Gonna get my PhD... I'm a teenage lobotomy!" - The Ramones Scouse Jan 11th, 2005, 05:53am DHyslop Wrote; I would argue that the song is actually considerably more serious than it seems. Were they all sent postcards to each other and he's collaborated a load of his into this book with his thoughts. Guess what I got as a stocking filler!!! Should keep one foot on the floor Shame S.O.A.D or Tenpole Tudor didn't pen OG 1st though the Fab 3 (McCartney gets my back up  ) could do no wrong once they dumped "rock'n'roll" Keef dbbga Feb 13th, 2005, 06:53pm I love this song!!!!! Thus why i used it in the video of my first Octo Sam!!!! Couldnt have pic'd a better song!! 8-) 8-) 8-) CherryOctopi May 30th, 2007, 03:27am I think it's whimsical and fun. Because wouldn't that be awesome if octopi really had a garden? Could you imagine the possibilities! |
