Hello all. We just got a new octopus and have no idea what speices it is. I've attached a few pictures. It doesn't have the markings of a bimac. And it has a zebra like pattern on its back/arms. Any thoughts?

Thank you!

Can you advise where you got it and if the store listed any info on where it came from originally?

A great looking little guy. What is his/her name?

I picked it up in New York. The LFS said that it came from Indonesia, though I have little confidence in that.

I'm not sure, but I think that's a vulgaris.

Looks like Abdopus aculeatus.

I agree. It looks like the Abdopus aculeatus I had in my tank.

Does your octopus try to mimic algea? Mine would actually try to look like a plant and even sway with the current. It was neat.

I've attached a better picture. Does this change your sense of what speices it is?

He is almost always out-- not shy at all (unlike my previous octopus).

Your thoughts are most appreciated.
